Idealess and hopeless star singer contest

I couldn't help not writing a few words on this programme which I started watching recently.....Its called Idea Star Singer 2008, supposed to be a 'hit' programme in Kerala.I had asianet TV for the last 6 years but have not watched this till this year.

What happened on the 'Kacheri round' for Somadas and the subsequent bullying of him in the hands of the Anchor-girl and Judging panel is beyond some thing civilised people could comprehend in the 21st century. The respect and interest I had for this have gone.....

A person should never have been humiliated like this in front of a live audience and those watching this programme all over the world (and in youtube).....

To add insult to injury, the anchor person was appealing to the public (indirectly) not to vote for Somadas
Except one judge all were brutal, cruel and saddistic towards this unfortunate chap. I dont have any civilised words in my dictionary to express this atrocity...sorry.....

I watch Idea star singer programme 2008 regularly...one of the reasons being the fact that I am impressed with Somadas. I am disgusted with the ugly comments of the 'Anchoring-English lady' and judges generally, specifically in the last episode.....I do not think the Judges comments about the songs are correct.

On another account I would request the Sponsors...ie the 2 crore prize money should be given to all the final round contestants with the major share for the winner....

mixed views.

on one hand I guess, these guys who have a go at these kind of heavily commercialized events are aware what lies in store from some of the nasty judges, especially as the same "popular" year long event ran from 2007 onwards. However the aforesaid judges also seem to enjoy their overnight stardom from a literally unknown status, thanks to that peculiar art of bullying much along the expectation lines and support of the soap-bored audience.

On the other hand, the same competing guys go in for good professional preparation before coming for their rounds with high optimism and hope that all-except-me will and should be bullied, but collapses and cuts a sorry figure when the tables are turned.

parents and society have a major part to play as they form the very reason -in setting the expectation- the guys end up at the show trying their luck.

the 2 crore question is whether to vote in the favourite contestant or to vote out the show altogether!

What happened on the show during the Kacheri round of Somadas was disgusting to say the least.
Looks like efforts are being made to manipulate the victory in favour of some contestants.
It was absolutely unfair of the judges to humiliate a singer as Somadas in such a manner. Everybody knows Kacheri is not his forte. In all the other rounds he had put in his best without any training whatsoever. No one expects him to go for classical training when he has to go and earn the bread for his family, driving an auto rickshaw.
Would Usha Uthup be able do even half a round of kacheri. Her terse comment pinched more than anybody else's. Perhaps she is now trying to make up for all the tears she shed during last year's episodes. And to add insult to injury, she thanked the reputed mridangam players who gave him accompaniment for playing with such a mediocre contestant. At least that is what she meant.
And finally, who is the anchor to pass on such harsh comments? How could Renjini openly ask the audience not to vote for Somadas? That is precisely what she meant when she told the audience: "only the best singer should win". She was in no way trying to help Somu but paving the way for his elimination.

You are right Mannadiar and Daniel......Its better that this 'so called reality soap' stop and the organisers express an unconditional apology to all the viewers hurt and traumatised by this ugly incident.

I agree that these type of programmes are giving a lot of oppurtunities to the talented youth of this generation that was lacking for the previous generations. But I also have a feeling that this episode will mark the beginning of the end of popularity of this programme and may even lead to the ultimate cessation of so called reality shows that is also causing maldevelopment (the other side of the coin) of kerala's next generation.

I think the popularity of the show has gone to the heads of all the judges and the hostess and they have started believing that they are demi gods, deciding the future of these wanna bes! Its sad to see adults acting so childishly and taking out their vendetta on a poor chap, who obviously has had no proper musical training. If this was such an impotant part of the competition, then they should have eliminated him from the audition itself, why at this late stage after he has helped Asianet improve the ratings for the show so much?? As for Renjini, I wish someone would tell her that talking Malayalam with an English accent went out of fashion a long time ago. Either she should improve her English and talk in good English or stick on to what she obviously knows (malayalam) and start losing the pseudo accent! Then again, that is her personal choice just like it was Somu's personal circumstances which made him unable to learn classical music. So if you blame one, you are opening the doors to blame the other!!
